Carlton Cole set to move across the Thames to Crystal Palace

Since winning promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the playoffs, Crystal Palace has been looking to get some experience to help in their fight for survival.

It seems though that Iain Holloway has found the perfect target to help guide their team upfront with the club rumoured to be in negotiations with Carlton Cole.

Cole is a free agent this summer after his contract with West Ham expired at the end of last season and is considered to be a prime target for The Eagles.

Cole would certain have the necessary experience to help lead the line at Selhurst Park having played for Chelsea, Aston Villa and West Ham in the Premier League.

During his 11 year career, the former England international has notched up well over 100 appearances in the topflight and has a personal best of 10 goals in a Premier league season.

This back to back stint had helped West Ham during their recurring fights against relegation during 2009-2010 where Cole hit double figures two seasons straight.

This has also helped the striker work his way into the England squad where he had earned 7 caps albeit all from the subs bench.

Despite having established as a first team member at West Ham for the pat 7seasons, Cole’s career hasn’t quite taken off as some had predicted during his time at Chelsea.

Fitness and form issues have sometime hampered the 29 year old and this was underlined last season where the striker only scored twice in 27 appearances in the Premier League.

Of course, Crystal Palace will certainly welcome any strikers of Cole’s calibre though with the club currently struggling to fill some vacancies upfront.

After all, the club lost their top scorer last season Wilfried Zaha after he moved to Manchester United back in January.

It means that the club have virtually no strikers in their squad who has previous experience of playing in the Premier League.

The club have tried to rectify this so far by signing Scottish striker Stephen Dobbie from Brighton who has played in the SPL for the likes of Hibernian and St.Johnstone earlier in his career.

It means that Crystal Palace could do with signing another striker with Premier League experience and free agents such as Carlton Cole could very well provide the perfect opportunity for The Eagles to get ready for the new season.
