Since taking charge in 2008 Hitzfeld has turned the Swiss into a solid hard to beat unit and they have only conceded 5 goals during the current campaign and despite only needing a draw to secure their passage the former Bayern Munich manager wants his side to win.

“Our philosophy is always the same – we will enter this match with the objective of winning,” he said.

“Although a draw is enough to take us to World Cup in Brazil, I assure you that we will not be taking chances. We want to win this game.”

“Albania are still hoping to win a place in the play-offs and they can be unpredictable so we know this is a big challenge. If we win then our dream of going to Brazil comes true.

“We have conceded only five goals in qualifying, but we need to improve our efficiency in front of goal

We create a lot of chances but don’t score enough of them.”

Goal have proved to be problem with Basle defender Fabian Schar Switzerland’s top scorer in qualifying so far with 3 goals however despite the lack of cutting edge Switzerland are currently in the middle of an unbeaten 11 game run and last lost back in May 2012 when Romania defeated them 1-0.

Despite being top scorer Schar is not guaranteed his place and faces a battle with Johan Djourou for the final centre back spot alongside Steve von Bergen and while Hitzfeld has made his decision as to who will get the nod he has yet to inform the players.

“This was a difficult choice – very difficult because both deserve to play. Djourou has been excellent throughout this campaign. As for Fabian, he produced top performances against Iceland and Norway,” Hitzfeld said.

Elsewhere in the group Iceland will look to keep their grasp on second place when they play Cyprus in Reykjavik while one of Slovenia and Norway could drop out of the race of the runners up with the pair set to clash in Maribor.
